Affiliate Marketing in India

November 12th, 2007 by minazkh

I did a simple search for “Indian Affiliates” in Google and came up with a very slim list of results that actually matter.  This made me wonder about how the Indian companies are marketing their new products.  Are they spending a whole lot on print and tv ads?  Are they mainly relying on seo?  I did however sign up with Affiliate Curry today and will keep you updated on how my campaign as a publisher is going.  I may even sign on as an advertiser, if the publishing side works out well.

Who’d have thunk it? Shoemoney touched my heart!

September 19th, 2007 by minazkh

I was reading Shoemoney’s column today and it made me pause… literally! Ok, so he is a blogger, and I know he is a Real person, but still, to me he is just someone unknown who writes about the web business.

However, today he had a post on his blog, regarding the demise of his good friend, Brice Beamen. He said that he names his servers after people that he would like to remember, dead or alive. People that mattered to him, people that helped him get to where he is in life today, or good friends. I lost my dad last year, and he was my best friend, and I get teary eyed every time I think of him. I miss just picking up the phone and calling him to give him an update on his grandkids or anything else that has happened to me that day. Naming the servers after loved ones, that just blew me away. Wow! This just opens up a whole lot of emotions to something so lifeless as a server. I would just be afraid to be too attached to that server, if I name it after my dad. I cannot imagine ever switching servers… it would mean I am letting go of my dad once again. I don’t think I could go through it again.

My observation regarding the current Indian economy

September 19th, 2007 by minazkh

Yesterday I was having this conversation with a friend regarding the economic boom in India. As a disclaimer I am not economist, but just someone who has a birds eye view.

Lets go back to the real estate and economy collapse of the early 90s. The inflation in property prices was due to domestic demand ie. Indians living in India were buying property at high prices, since the Share Bazaar was booming. Then, due to scams or any other reason, the share market saw its share of drop, and that started a chain reaction. Everyone wanted to sell their property, since, they were getting over a Crore for a flat in Mumbai, that they had paid on 20 Lakhs a few years back. Supply increased tremendously, and housing market collapsed at the same time.

Fast forward to today. Foreign investments in India is flush. Just earlier this month, the government passed a law that will allow Indians to LEGALLY send $100,000 USD (approx 40 Lakhs) overseas. Why is this being done? Because the value of Indian Rupee is increasing, and this in turn is hurting the exports. I also believe that the housing boom today, is due to the fact that a lot of foreign companies and NRIs are throwing money, and paying the ridiculous prices for property. Many if not all, with the purpose of investment.

Now here is the scenario:

  1. What happens if the US economy really tanks?
  • Job cutbacks by US companies, in US and India. Resulting in shortage of disposable income.
  • Investment cutbacks in India, for business and property. Decrease in the value of Rupee.
  • Property sell offs by NRIs and foreign companies. Possible bust in the property and housing market due to the increase in demand.

Here is the question - How long before the s**t hits the fan?

Possible job skills for OJ Simpson to brush up on.

September 18th, 2007 by minazkh

Now that he is in the slammer, and may be there for a while, OJ should probably brush up on his jobs skills.

Possible jobs skills he can attain:

  1. Learn to keep his mouth shut when he thinks that he is being recorded while committing a crime.
  2. Learn to write a fiction book, but not really confess and brag about his real life crimes in it.
  3. Get acting lessons, to keep from looking so guilty all the time.
  4. Learn to shoot a high powered rifle, so he does not get blood on him the next time.

Yes, 4 is such an odd number. Let me know if you can think of more possible jobs.

Curious Snippets From A Deranged Observer

September 15th, 2007 by minazkh
  • Why is India considered 3rd world country??? India probably has more small businesses that any developed nation. Just look at the Kirana stores, or small coffee stands, or even the kids that do the shoe polish. They are considered self employed, aren’t they?
  • Next time the list of Forbes Millionaires comes out, India should be the leader in the number of millionaires. Why? Have you seen the number of houses and apartments that are now selling for over 4 Crores??? That makes you a millionaire in dollars instantly! Ridiculous pricing! Which reminds me… did you hear about the Ambuja cement property in Mumbai? A 2 acre property sold for Rs. 333 Crores! Ridiculous pricing!
  • Why are they making underground subway type transport systems (eg. in Bangalore) when it would be more feasible to go over the ground the like the mono rail system?
  • When traveling by air, what is the point of getting your check-in luggage x-rayed before you get to the ticket counter??? You still have possession of your bags after the x-ray. DUMB!

Ok. I am done ranting for the day!

Where is the work ethic?

September 15th, 2007 by minazkh

Ok, so I was trying to get some stickers and posters made for this site in Bangalore.  Now, I found 1 company that would do it.  I talked to the gentleman over the phone, and he asked me to email him the design etc.  Fine, did that, and tried to set up a time to meet him.  Would you believe that I had to call him atleast 10-12 times to ask him to meet me????  He would tell me that he will call me back, or have one of his guys come over and meet me, but I would never hear back, and give him reminder calls.  It seemed like I was asking him to pay me money just because he was doing this job for me.

Got tired of that shit!  So, called another guy that came recommended.  And what do you know… same crap with him too.  Maybe the printing business is the business to be in…seems like all these guys are too busy for a Rs.5000-Rs.10,000 job!

Evolution of our Logo

February 27th, 2007 by minazkh

1. This was our first try

Our First Logo —>> The idea behind the lines under the words is to show steps - for Sidi.

2. Our Second Try

–>> Just trying our a new color with a thinner font.

3. Our Third Try

–>> Went back to the original font and colors, however, tried the ladders in the letter ‘I’ didn’t quite make us commit to it.

4. Our Fourth Try

–>> This time new font, with just lines under the words to represent the steps. We were actually quite committed to this and had this as our final logo for a good month until…

5. Our Fifth Try

–>> This is was actually our final logo where we aligned the words in the same line and got rid of the steps, but instead added the arrows pointing up, to show the climbing up the ladder of success. One little detail was missing.

6. Our Final Logo

–>> Just added the shadow. Kind of like adding cuff links to complete that Tuxedo. We think it works. What do you think?
